2024 MAT Conference

Calling Mathematics Educators across the state and beyond. ‘Charting a Course for a Digital World’ is the theme for this year’s Mathematical Association of Tasmania’s annual conference from May 31 to June 1.

On Friday May 31 from 5:30 onward, our conference will start with a keynote presentation by local Tasmanian Mathematics educators, (followed by the conference dinner at the Cornelian Bay Boathouse from 7:00pm)

Continuing on Saturday June 1 from 8:30am – 3:30pm we kick off with a keynote presentation by reknown Mathematics Education Eddie Woo plus a series of high-quality workshops from maths educators from Tasmania and beyond.

Our focus this year is to reconnect with maths educators and reengage with maths professional learning with renewed energy after some challenging years that have passed. To get the conference underway we have ‘superstars’ in their field:

  • Australia’s Local Hero in the Australian of the Year Awards, Eddie Woo, who is an internationally published author, TED speaker, and TV host of ABC’s Teenage Boss and Channel 10’s Ultimate Classroom.
  • AAMT CEO Allan Dougan
  • Rachael Whitney-Smith, ACARA Mathematics Curriculum Lead, a specialist in curriculum development
  • Renown Mathematics Educator, Matt Skoss

The conference is preceded by the Early Careers Day (for beginning teachers and out-of-area Maths teachers) on Friday May 31 – tickets are sold separately.

Early Careers Day 2024

Join us as the Mathematical Association of Tasmania (MAT) hosts a day of learning for early career teachers (and more experienced teachers who are new to mathematics). We have a line-up of inspiring mathematics educators, who will deliver practical workshops and pass on their expertise. This is a fantastic opportunity to build networks and learn some valuable maths teaching craft.

This is a pre-conference event for the 2024 Mathematical Association of Tasmania Conference (Saturday June 1).

Early Careers Day attendees who would like to attend the Saturday portion of the conference will be given a promo code to access the Saturday at MAT individual member prices. Email andrew.court@decyp.tas.gov.au if you are attending the Early Careers Day but have not yet received your promo code.
